Dee Street Decodables| 24 books
The Dee Street Decodables are a set of sequential, systematic and structured decodable books that will ensure learners aquire the essential alphabet blending and segmenting knowledge to enable them to become successful readers and spellers. High frequency, sight words are introduced to ensure the text is not stilted or meaningless. Books 1-6 books introduce and reinforce short vowels. The books introduce and repeat non-decodable high-frequency words. Punctuation includes . , ! ?. Books 7 ? 12 continue to reinforce short vowels and also introduce consonant digraphs at the beginning and the end of words. These include ch, ck, ng sh, tch, th wh. These books also include the double consonants ff, ll, ss, for example Jeff, Shell, pass at the end of words and when adding endings ed and ing as in yelled, missed, chopped, jogging, getting, shopping. Books 7-12 introduce and reinforce contractions as in I?m, don?t, I?ll, we?ll. Books 13 ? 18 continue to reinforce consonant digraphs at the beginning and the end of words but now introduce consonant blends. These include the l family, r family and s family. These books also include the double consonants when adding endings ed and ing. Books 13-18 reinforce contractions, posssessives and endings.Books 19 ? 24 continue to reinforce consonant blends at the beginning and the end of words but now introduce long vowels a, e, i, o, u, where the spelling pattern is vc+ e. The vowel sound is made long by the silent 'e' at the end of the word. Books 19-24 reinforce all previous skills and include irregular past tense and hyphenated words.
