During the Berlin Airlift, a humanitarian rescue mission that utilized British and American pilots to fly supplies into West Berlin, one of the American pilots, Lt. Halvorsen, came to be known as the Chocolate Pilot to seven-year-old Mercedes and the other children of Berlin.
