Description Mercedes Pinto was a brave woman. Writer, playwright, journalist, and speaker, she stood out from the cultural environment of the islands, where her verses earned her the nickname of "La poetess Canaria". Unfortunately, her ideas in favor of women's rights and her political actions forced her to emigrate to South America. However, she took advantage of her exile to continue acting as an ambassador of Canarian culture and fighting for gender equality in the American continent.
